Government responds to energy crunch
Last week, the Government released a series of both short and medium-term options to bolster New Zealand energy security. BEC supports the Government’s approach and considers the actions to be largely pragmatic in the face of limited short-term options to rebalance the energy supply imbalance. The actions will provide regulatory certainty in an environment where investment is vitally needed, and new generation projects are in the pipeline. Read more...

Bright ideas: Unlocking energy efficiency in Aotearoa
25 September 2024 BusinessNZ Wellington
As New Zealand faces energy scarcity, both with limited gas and electricity supply, improving the supply imbalance takes priority to ensure the lights stay on, businesses stay in New Zealand and energy is affordable to decarbonise our economy. As part of our actions to boost supply, it is clear we need to take a closer look at energy efficiency to ensure that we can minimise peak demand, optimise and reduce demand, and use our energy more dynamically in a system with more renewables. Join our panellists as they discuss ways to improve energy efficiency through new emerging technologies, identifying barriers and solutions to its adoption including quick wins we can do now, the role that Government and the private sector can play, and ways to unlock more demand-side flexibility.

2024 NZ Wind Energy Summit Onshore & Offshore Wind Energy
10-12 September - Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington
This year’s over-arching theme, "Our Wind, Our Future" encapsulates wind energy’s critical role to deliver our future clean energy needs. Aotearoa’s wind resource is not only abundant, but it is world class in terms of sustained wind quality, which we should all embrace. The secondary theme focused on the wind sectors’ ability to provide energy security to the grid. The event traverses both onshore wind energy and offshore wind energy as both technologies continue to evolve. We need both technology solutions to support the net zero carbon targets, with each requiring different industry support. NZWEA is therefore technology agnostic and deeply supportive of both.
