IAG establishes milestone renewable energy agreements across NZ/AU

IAG has announced new renewable energy agreements across its Australasian operations. In New Zealand, it will be working with CLC signatory Ecotricity to procure 100% renewable electricity. “We’re delighted to have formed renewable energy partnerships across Australia and New Zealand, marking a tangible step in our journey towards net zero."

   

Meridian, Mercury and Contact Energy to power Tiwai Point

New Zealand Aluminium Smelters (NZAS) has signed contracts with SBC members Meridian, Mercury and Contact Energy to secure energy supply to aluminium smelter Tiwai Point until at least 2044. The new structure, which includes a demand response agreement, will support the electricity system to become even more renewable.

   

Counties Energy repurposes old EV batteries to recharge new ones

In a New Zealand first, Counties Energy is completing the life-cycle for used EV batteries by converting them into an energy storage system for recharging EVs. “As a company we strive to be at the forefront of sustainable energy usage in New Zealand, as early investors in electric vehicle fleets and charging systems, along with battery technology."

In an effort to recognise and encourage the advancement of environmental economics and its applications, NZIER has established the Ed Hearnshaw Environmental Economics Award and is seeking applications from those who have produced innovative or outstanding work in the area of environmental economics. Waikato Regional Council to use nature-based solutions

Waikato Regional Council will be using nature-based solutions to offset its hard-to-reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The Te Āki Tūroa │ Nature+ Framework and Plan pathway will help the Council reduce and offset its residual greenhouse gas emissions by restoring indigenous biodiversity and promoting resilience to climate change.
