Climate Leaders Coalition Launch 5th Anniversary Snapshot

Congratulations to the Climate Leaders Coalition who this week launched their 5th Anniversary Snapshot revealing signatories have collectively reduced their emissions by 3.6 million tonnes since joining the Coalition. Established back in 2018 to drive climate action in the business sector, the insights show the significant impact the Coalition continues to have. Read the full report here.

Auckland Council adopts new future growth strategy

Auckland Council’s Planning, Environment and Parks Committee has

adopted a new strategy for how the city will grow and develop over the next 30 years. The strategy recommends building most new housing in existing suburbs instead of undeveloped land, to reduce emissions and avoid high infrastructure costs. Read the full strategy here.


   

Contact offers solution to CO2 shortage

Contact Energy is working on an innovative way of capturing the naturally occurring CO2 released during the geothermal power generation process and converting it to food grade quality. The initiative could help reduce carbon emissions including those from burning fossil fuels to ship CO2 here, and create around 40 jobs in the Taupō area.

Networking opportunity: Meet American MBA/Sustainability students interested in New Zealand

MBA students from California’s Pepperdine Graziadio Business School will be visiting New Zealand in December and meeting with SBC as part of their Social, Ethical and Environmental Responsibility certificate, with the intention of learning more about sustainability and exploring employment opportunities in New Zealand’s sustainability sector. In an effort to potentially bring more future sustainability professionals with international experience into Aotearoa, and to help these students learn about how we do business here, SBC is offering the opportunity for our members to come meet, mingle and network with a cohort of possible future hires. IoD - Planning for a just transition to a low carbon future
