Global energy-related CO2 emissions grew in 2022 by 0.9%, or 321 million tonnes, reaching a new high of more than 36.8 billion tonnes, according to the report. The rise in emissions was significantly slower than global economic growth of 3.2%, signalling a return to a decade-long trend that was interrupted in 2021 by the rapid and emissions-intensive economic rebound from the Covid crisis. Meridian starts works for big battery | Meridian has begun construction of its Ruakākā Energy Park, near Whangārei, with the official sod turning event taking place last week for the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) part of the project. Methanex and MOL Net-Zero Voyage | Methanex Corporation (Methanex) and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) were pleased to announce the methanol dual-fuel vessel “Cajun Sun” successfully completed the first-ever net-zero voyage fuelled by bio-methanol. Healthy Homes for a Sustainable Future: A German NZ Collaboration for Energy Efficiency Retrofitting | |

The German-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in discussion with the Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ), is currently working on piloting a project to increase the energy efficiency of residential buildings in New Zealand. It is part of Germany's Energy Export Initiative. The goal is a turnkey cost-effective solution for energy retrofits of single-family homes in New Zealand developed by a consortium consisting of six German companies. As part of the project, there will be a conference on 22nd May 2023 in Wellington, where German and New Zealand experts and the delegates of the German company consortium will share their knowledge and experience. | |

SAVE THE DATE - The World Energy Council’s 26th Energy Congress in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, previously scheduled to run from 4-7 December 2023, will now be held from 22-25 April 2024. As the impartial and pragmatic voice of the global energy community, the World Energy Council will fully support the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-28) to the UNFCCC, now to be held towards the end of 2023, and has therefore adjusted the dates of the 26th World Energy Congress. The theme, Redesigning Energy for People and Planet, emphasises that there has never been a more important time for leadership in energy, for climate and human security, for promoting new energy actions in all regions which generate positive harmonies between people and planet, and for peace. | |
