Power Purchase potential explored

SBC joined forces with BEC, ExportNZ, EVAMarketplace, EMA, and DLA Piper to host a workshop on the potential of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) market. Attended by 100 participants – cited benefits from PPAs included better control over energy bills, reliable supply, and a reduced carbon footprint. To support delivery the group canvased issues including early engagement with lenders, and the use of templates.

   

Meridian signs agreement for 10 years of solar

Meridian has signed a new agreement for the purchase of 100% of the output from Tauhei Solar Farm, for its first 10 years of operation. The solar farm will generate 280 gigawatt hours of electricity each year, enough to power around 35,000 homes. A joint venture by Harmony Energy and First Renewables, when completed in 2026, it will be Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest solar farm to date.

   

Government sets emissions reduction targets for 2031-2035

The Government has announced Aotearoa New Zealand’s international emissions reduction targets for the period 2031–2035. Analysis by the Climate Change Commission, put Aotearoa New Zealand’s domestic emissions reduction potential alone at 58% on its demonstration path for the same period. The new target aims to reduce emissions by 51–55% below 2005 levels by 2035. LIC delivers positive half-year financial results

LIC's half-year financial result for the 6 months to 30 November 2024 has seen significant improvement from the prior year, indicating that farmers have generally weathered the tough financial headwinds of 2023 and early 2024. Board Chair Corrigan Sowman expressed pride in the co-operative's progress. “I am incredibly pleased to see farmers continue to recognise the value of investing in productive herds and resilient farms.”

   

Have your say on afforestation and native forest regeneration

The Government is seeking information on partnership opportunities to afforest (plant native or exotic trees) or promote native forest regeneration on Crown-owned land (excluding National Parks) that has low farming value and low conservation value. An RFI is currently open to gauge interest in the proposal and understand viability. Feedback is due by 5pm on 28 February 2025.
