Contact trials innovative solution to enhance EV charging

Contact Energy is piloting an EV Demand Flex Programme to ease pressure on the national electricity grid. With more than 82,500 electric vehicles and 37,300 plug-in hybrids in NZ, charging puts a strain on the grid during peak times. The flex programme with automatically charge vehicles during times of low-energy demand.

   
   
   

MfE releases measuring emissions guide 2025

The Ministry for the Environment has released the Measuring emissions guide: 2025, designed to help organisations measuring and reporting on their greenhouse gas emissions. This guide includes the Emissions Factors Workbook, which contains a summary of changes from last year's publication, and the Emissions Factors Flat File. Read it here. 

   
   

Consultation on the NZ Sustainable Finance Taxonomy

The NZ Taxonomy will facilitate finance which supports NZ’s climate transition. Public consultation opens in June on the criteria developed for the agriculture and forestry sectors. Feedback on usability and effectiveness is being sought from these sectors, as well as the finance sector, insurance, civil society, iwi and Māori stakeholders. NIWA working to nail down GHG sources

NIWA is working to differentiate between methane emitted by farm animals and that which comes from local wetlands. Dr Christian Stiegler and his team are developing a method to attribute methane to the correct source, based on the different isotopes – or molecular signatures – of methane from farm animals compared with methane emitted naturally by wetlands.
