EECA and Centre for Sustainable Finance partner to unlock private capital for clean energy

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) and Centre for Sustainable Finance: Toitū Tahua (CSF) have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate private investment in New Zealand’s energy transition. This collaboration aims to address barriers to financing renewable energy projects and energy efficiency projects. Read more here.

The Living House - a low cost, fast build, climate positive home has been launched by partners The Lever Room, RTA Studio and Fisher & Paykel. This solar-powered timber home offers warmth, health, and climate leadership. The Lever Room team’s lifecycle carbon modelling shows The Living House stores more carbon than it emits. Fonterra announces next steps in move out of coal 

Fonterra has officially opened the first electrode boiler at its Edendale site, and announced further plans to progress decarbonisation at its Southern most site.   The Co-operative will invest a further $70 million in two new electrode boilers as it moves away from using coal while securing renewable energy solutions to future-proof its sites.  Read more here.

   
   
   

Consultation open - Biodiversity Strategy implementation plan and Predator Free 2050

The Department of Conservation (DoC) opened public consultation on two discussion documents this week. The documents relate to Biodiversity Strategy implementation and the Predator Free 2050 strategy review. Consultation is open from 5 May to 30 June. DoC will be holding two webinars to provide an overview of the proposals - register on their website. 

   
   
   

Request for Information on Climate Reporting 2025 – XRB

The XRB have opened a request for information (RFI) on the benefits and costs of aligning NZ climate reporting with international standards. They want to understand what international alignment is most desirable, and why. The RFI is open until 13 June.
