SBC Guide: Community investment

Businesses have a social responsibility to give back to the communities in which they operate – whether that's through giving time, money or resources. In our newest SBC Guide, we provide practical steps for designing and delivering a community investment programme, to create a comprehensive and impactful approach for activating the ‘S’ in ESG.

Thoughts from Lucy McKenzie (AUT) on SLP

"Sustainability is a massive challenge, and when we work in collaboration across organisations, across industry, we can achieve so much. So having that [network] throughout New Zealand means that I can contact them when I have challenges, or in order to potentially partner on projects." Hear more in Lucy's SLP testimonial video and register for a free SLP taster here.

SBC Spotlight Series: Getting started on your te ao Māori journey

Online | 28 November, 10:30am NZST

(SBC members only) Organisations are increasingly seeing the importance of incorporating te ao Māori and indigenous perspectives into their business model and brand – but it’s difficult to know where, and how, to start that journey in a way that is authentic, meaningful and appropriate. Join us for a special Spotlight Session with Māori Cultural Advisor Hone Heke Ngapua-Rankin (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Whātua) who will outline the process he goes through with organisations (including SBC) who are wanting to become better te Tiriti partners, and offer food for thought around how businesses can create a ‘fertile’ space for critical cultural conversations to happen.

NEW: Sustainable Transition Leaders Breakfast Series (KPMG and SBC)

18 Viaduct Harbour Avenue, Auckland | February-March 2025 (3 sessions)

The shift to a low carbon, sustainable future is demanding a new cohort of ‘transition leaders’ – leaders with an understanding of the scale of the change required, an appreciation for the systemic forces hindering this transition and the uncertainty around how these might play out. Transition leaders not only need to take a long-term view but also navigate an inherently uncertain path ahead. This series gives you the space to consider the opportunity for your business and collaborate with peers to overcome the challenges to get there.

Sustainability Leadership Programme 2025

Hybrid course | May to July 2025

Leadership is one of the key levers that allows organisations to accelerate their sustainability progress, and yet only 34% of sustainability professionals in Aotearoa New Zealand feel completely confident in their current role. Grow your confidence, networks and ability to make an impact through the 2025 Sustainability Leadership Programme (SLP), a partnership between Catapult and SBC designed to help you develop the leadership skills needed to help embed sustainability at the heart of your business. Learn more below, and register for the taster session on 5 February to get a sense for what the course is all about.
