MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | Kia ora! I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Matariki weekend. New Zealand’s Performance of Manufacturing Index (PMI) continues to show a concerning trend with the sector now in contraction for 15 consecutive months – and there aren’t many signs of us returning to positive territory any time soon. The seasonally adjusted PMI for May was 47.2, down from 48.8 in April (a PMI reading above 50.0 indicates that manufacturing is generally expanding; below 50.0 indicates that the sector is declining). The results show that manufacturers are struggling to bring in new orders, while holding on to finished stock. The BusinessNZ Network is working with government officials to understand the weaknesses in the Trans-Tasma Mutual Recognition Agreement and are asking for manufacturers’ feedback. There is a quick survey down below, please take 5 minutes to fill it out and help ensure that New Zealand goods can continue to be sold in Australia via the TTMRA. That’s it for now, have a great week! Josh

Survey Request: Is Trans-Tasman Trade Breaking Down, and What Can Be Done About It?
| The Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement (TTMRA), which provides that goods that can legally be sold in New Zealand can be sold in Australia, and vice versa, is now 20 years old. At the time, the Agreement created a world-leading trade framework. But it is evident that regulatory and other barriers have started to creep in, and these have weakened the Agreement. Please help us to gather information about the barriers and possible remedies by clinking the link and completing the questionnaire. It should take 5-10 minutes.
