Earth Sciences NZ switches on new $35 million weather forecasting supercomputer | Cascade – Earth Science NZ’s (formerly NIWA) newest supercomputer is in action. It is capable of computing at speeds of 2.4 petaflops — three times more powerful than its predecessor, making for more accurate forecasts. New Zealand’s tyre recycling scheme celebrates 1st anniversary |
Nearly four million tyres have been collected for recycling or repurposing during Tyrewise’s first year of operation. As Aotearoa New Zealand’s first regulated product stewardship scheme for tyres, Tyrewise now has 5,000 registered partners across the country. “Tyres are going from being a waste stream to a resource which creates jobs and adds value to the New Zealand economy,” says CEO Adele Rose. | | | |

NZ’s first hydrogen blending pilot reaches major milestone | 14 homes in Te Horo are receiving a 10% hydrogen blend through the existing gas network as part of a project led by Firstgas (part of Clarus), Powerco, Vector, GasNet, and Nova Energy. The project shows the feasibility of current infrastructure use to deliver hydrogen, creating potential to decarbonise the sector. Read more here. | | | |
