SBC welcomes new Advisory Board members

We are very pleased to share that Raewyn Moss (Transpower), Paula ter Brake (IAG) and Matthew Wilson (DB Breweries) have been appointed to SBC’s Advisory Board following our call for EOIs, each bringing with them a wealth of experience and passion for sustainability. We also acknowledge departing Advisory Board member Amanda Whiting (IAG) and offer our sincere gratitude for her contribution to SBC over the years.     NZ business sustainability group pushing forwards to protect nature

    SBC Executive Director Mike Burrell and Advisory Board member (and Westpac NZ CEO) Catherine McGrath spoke to BusinessDesk about SBC's growing focus on nature, collaborations, climate advocacy, and more. “An interesting thing happens, which is if you lift your nose and start looking at the horizon, you start scanning not just for risk but for opportunity.” 

       

    FMA encouraged by first climate statements

    The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has published its Climate-Related Disclosures insights report from the first set of climate reporting entities, looking at compliance and providing feedback. “We are pleased with the efforts that CREs have made to prepare and lodge their first set of mandatory climate statements under the CRD regime."     Eco Choice Aotearoa (ECA) is the country’s official ecolabel and is a part of the Global Ecolabelling Network. In this member story, ECA delves into the importance for New Zealand exporters aiming to penetrate and thrive in international markets to be able to substantiate environmental claims through transparent and verified means.     CCC opens call for evidence

    The Climate Change Commission has opened a call for evidence to inform the second national climate change risk assessment. Between now and 31 March 2025, they are seeking high-quality and credible evidence on the risks Aotearoa New Zealand faces from the physical impacts of climate change, the consequences of those risks over time, and the actions that can and are being taken to address them.     According to Forsyth Barr's third carbon, environmental, social and governance ratings report, New Zealand’s listed companies are starting to break ahead of the pack, with the leaders leaving the laggards in the dust. Meridian has ranked first again, with other members Contact, Mercury, Spark, Genesis, Chorus and AIA called out as leaders. Read more here.

    Advice on NZ's 2050 emissions reduction target and budgets (CCC)

    Online | 10 December, 11:30am-12:30pm NZST

    Join the Climate Change Commission for a public webinar on the Commission’s advice on Aotearoa New Zealand’s medium and long-term emissions reduction goals, including the review of the country’s 2050 emissions target, and whether it should include emissions from international shipping and aviation, and advice on the fourth emissions budget (for the period 2036–2040). There will be a short presentation about the recommendations, followed by a Q&A. The Government will use this advice to inform important decisions it must make by the end of 2025 that will affect how the country tackles climate change for the next 20–30 years.
