Economic Imperative Report kicks off

SBC and CLC have officially kicked off work on the development of our Economic Imperative Report, led by Sapere and Beca. This report will provide the economic evidence that a transition to net zero will drive sustainable growth in New Zealand. All members will have now received an email seeking case studies. Danone B Corp certified across the globe

Danone has officially achieved B Corp certification worldwide, with more than 200 Danone entities now certified in 60+ countries. The milestone marks the culmination of a 10-year journey which began in 2015. In New Zealand, Danone Oceania was pleased to recertify as a B Corp across its specialised nutrition businesses earlier this year.

A new report into the future of the energy system says NZ must learn to do more with less gas. Energy to Grow, published by Boston Consulting Group, builds on the 2022 Future is Electric report, setting out how NZ can renew its competitive edge with abundant, firmed renewable energy – powering economic growth while navigating the challenges of affordability, security and sustainability.

KiwiRail launches new carbon calculator

KiwiRail has launched a free carbon calculator to help customers compare emissions from rail, road, and air transport. The tool estimates carbon footprints for freight and passenger journeys, including Interislander crossings, and highlights rail’s low-emission benefits. Verified by Toitū Envirocare, the calculator supports businesses and travellers in making informed, climate-conscious decisions. Find the calculator here.

L’Oreal opens new Green Star building

L’Oreal has opened its new distribution centre in Ōtāhuhu. The warehouse is the first in NZ to achieve 6-Star Green Star certification under the revised standards, and includes 100% renewable energy from solar, water capture systems, smart lighting controls to reduce energy waste and minimisation of embedded carbon emissions during refurbishment. Congratulations L’Oreal on this important mahi.

With COP30 officially wrapping up in Belém, the final climate deal saw wealthy countries tripling their financial support to help vulnerable nations adapt to the impacts of climate change, but made no mention of fossil fuels. Financial Markets Conduct Amendment Bill

The Finance and Expenditure Committee is seeking submissions on Amendment Paper No. 446 to the Financial Markets Conduct Amendment Bill. Proposed changes to climate-related disclosures include raising reporting thresholds for listed issuers, removing managed investment scheme managers, and adjusting liability settings. Submissions close 4 December 2025 via Parliament’s website.
