Emissions fall across every sector in New Zealand in 2023 | Aotearoa New Zealand’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory (1990-2023), the country’s official annual record of emissions and removals, has revealed gross emissions dropped by 2 per cent, and net emissions by 4 per cent, between 2022 and 2023. Shipping first industry with internationally mandated emissions reduction targets |
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has achieved another important step towards establishing a legally binding framework to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships globally, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. The agreement covers the vast majority of the world's commercial shipping and from 2028, ship owners will have to use increasingly cleaner fuels or face fines. | | | |

KiwiRail’s new electric shunt machines arrive | KiwiRail has welcomed the arrival of two state-of-the-art Electric Shunt Machines (ESMs) from Germany. The zero-emissions vehicles are designed to safely handle shunting loads of up to 2000 tonnes, replacing some of KiwiRail’s older heavy diesel shunting locomotives (DSCs) across its rolling stock depots and workshops. | | | |
